New Water Quality Standards

That new plan allows an increase in the amount of what are considered cancer-causing toxins in our rivers and streams. Now it goes to the federal Environmental Protection Agency for approval.



lightning strikeLighting may be the cause of a big brush fire on Egmont Key. At least 30 acres have been burned with firefighters working on the ground and dropping water by air to contain the blaze.





There are now six new travel-related Zika virus cases in Florida, one of those in Hillsborough County. To date, 49 pregnant women in Florida have contracted the virus that can cause catastrophic birth defects.




peacockThere’s a problem with peacocks on Longboat Key. So now trappers are tranquilizing the birds for removal after trying traps. It costs a little more, but they’re hoping to have at least 25 more relocated soon.
