A vote to place Hillsborough County Transportation Commission Executive Director Kyle Cockream on paid administrative leave while investigating alleged conflicts of interest failed yesterday. There are 12,000 emails that Chairman Victor Crist wants the PTC to look at that supposedly show Cockream used cab and limo companies to help nab Uber and Lyft drivers operating illegally within the county. The board will use an outside firm for the investigation that could take up to four months.
The Transportation Safety Commission at Tampa International Airport is reminding us to leave the weapons at home, especially during the upcoming holiday travel season. They cited a significant upswing in confiscated weapons at TIA and nationwide. We have more on what you need to know about weapons and travel here.
Game one of the World Series was one for the record books at the Cleveland Indians shut out the Chicago Cubs 6-0, with Cleveland pitcher Corey Kluber setting a World Series record with eight strikeouts in the first three innings. Game two has had a slight adjustment made in the start time due to expected bad weather. The game will start at 7 instead of 8 pm
Lightning goalie Ben Bishop took a shot to the face during Tuesday’s game against the Maple Leafs which bounced right off goalie cage, and took his front teeth with it. Busch Gardens made the decision to be safe and close the Congo River Rapids Ride yesterday after a ride malfunctioned at a park in Australia, killing four people. Busch Gardens spokeswoman Karen Varga-Sinka said the park wants to work with other parks and ride manufacturers to understand what happened in Australia, and sent their thoughts and prayers to the families of those who died.
There’s a new development proposed for six acres in downtown Tampa right across from the University of Tampa. The Hillsborough River Realty Company has submitted plans for a mixed-use development they’re calling Lafayette Place. Three towers would hold office, retail and residential space.
It’s real – Girl Scout Cookie Cereal. Starting after the first of the year you’ll be able to buy Caramel Crunch which tastes like the Samoa cookie, and then there’s the Thin Mints cereal. General Mills won’t say too much about the new cereal additions for now. But like the cookies the cereal will only be around for a limited time.
