A new survey from EverDrive says I-4 is the most dangerous interstate in the county. I-4 runs from Tampa to Daytona Beach and averaged 1.4 fatalities per mile between 2010 and 2015. Distracted driving may have had a lot to do with that since Florida also ranks second worst in the county for phone use while driving. Two other roads in Florida are also ranked among the most dangerous – I-95 and I-10.
Disaster Recovery Centers are wrapping up their work in the aftermath of Hurricane Hermine this week and will be closing. But Disaster Survivor Assistance Teams from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are still at work in eight counties that include Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Pinellas at least through the deadline to file on November 29th
From worst to best – Tampa International Airport takes the number three spot of best airports in America from Conde Nast Traveler. They called TIA already a vision of the future the way it is today, even without all the latest improvements completed. The top airport was Indianapolis with Portland coming in second.
Could Oldsmar be the next home of the Rays? Mayor Dog Bevis will present the city’s preliminary plan today for the proposed ballpark could be constructed on 120 acres of land west of Tampa Bay Downs. Oldsmar is one of a number of city’s interested in the Rays.
PETA has filed suit against Dade City’s Wild Things alleging they violated the Endangered Species Act by abusing tiger cubs for photo ops. PETA used undercover volunteers to obtain footage of what they say are employees of Wild Things using tiger cubs for photo ops. Kathy Steams from Wild Things says they deny all those allegations and accused PETA of distorting the truth for their own financial gain
A new safety campaign has been launched by communities along our Gulf Beach to protect pedestrians. “Walk With Care, Drive Aware” wants drivers especially along Gulf Drive to be extra careful now that we’re into tourist season. The Rotary Club of the Gulf Beaches, the Treasure Island Police Department, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, and Bike/Walk Tampa Bay all are part of the campaign.
The Cubs evened things up in game two of the World Series beating the Indians 5-1. Game three now shifts to Chicago with the first pitch scheduled for 8 pm Friday.
The Transportation Safety Commission at Tampa International Airport is reminding us to leave the weapons at home, especially during the upcoming holiday travel season.
