St Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman faced members of Pinellas County’s legislative delegation yesterday at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. They want the mayor to get repairs and renovations done faster on the city’s sewage system to avoid more toxic spills. The current schedule has those repairs done by next August. But many members of the delegation wanted the city to consider alternative measure and doubted those repairs would be completed on time.
Hillsborough County Commissioners unanimously approved a plan yesterday to renovate four homes in Belmont Heights with toxic Chinese drywall. The county will work with the city of Tampa and the Tampa Housing Authority to cover the costs of replacing the drywall along with other repairs. The majority of the costs will be covered by a state affordable housing grant, with additional funds from the county and the city of Tampa.
Tampa will be hosting the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship game, and announced the creation of “Championship Campus” designed that will be the site of numerous events. The area from Amalie Arena all the way along the Tampa riverfront will be the site of music festivals, Playoff Fan Central – a football themed park and more. The Championship Beach Bash will be at Pier 60 on Clearwater Beach Sunday, Jan. 8 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
A portion of the former historic Belleview Biltmore Hotel will be going for a ride to a new location. Crews will move a portion of the 120 year old building 320 feet next month on to a new foundation. That will be the hallmark of a new luxury community called Belleview place, and that part of the hotel will be named the Belleview Inn. The move and renovations costs – $13 million.
