Medical Marijuana RX’s Begin Today

potMedical marijuana is available in Florida for the first time today. Most of the doctors who can prescribe it are in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. There’s quite a bit both doctors and patients have to deal with to get the prescription, and for a list of doctors who have gone through the eight hour course required to be certified by the Department of Health, click here.

This morning some kids in Hillsborough County have to walk to school this morning now that the so-called “courtesy busing” has been halted by the school board. Children who live within 2 miles of their schools have lost their ride. The school district says it’s a money saving measure, and those funds could be put back into schools.

Thom Stark, was the CEO of the Florida Aquarium from 2002 until he left to focus on health problems in 2015, has died of cancer at 68. Scott Rose, the COO of the Aquarium will take over for now. Stark leaves his wife and two children, and is being remembered by many as a great leader.

airport_chaosA lot of people just trying to get home over the weekend ran into a big problem thanks to a computer system outage affecting US Customs and Border Protection. It started early Monday morning and wasn’t fixed until sometime around 10:30 last night.

Hernando County twins born just in time for the New Year won’t be celebrating their birthdays on the same day. Newborns Yulianna and Zane actually made their debuts eighteen minutes apart. Yulianna was born at 11:43 p.m. on December 31, and her brother Zane was born at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2017 at Oak Hill Hospital in Spring Hill.

bowl-gamesThe College Football National Championship coming to Tampa and Raymond James Stadium on Monday the 9th will be between the Alabama Crimson Tide with a perfect 14-0 record against Clemson at 13-1. But the Tide will not have Coach Lane Kiffen who has left for a new head coaching position with Florida Atlantic’s head coach.

The Florida Gators ended the year with a win over the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Outback Bowl yesterday. Final score was 30-3. bucs3_12603435_8colAnd the season ends with a win for the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday against Carolina 17-16. We a look at next year’s schedule here.
