There’s no agreement between the city of Tampa and Cuba for our ports, but there is one for the port of Alabama. The Alabama Port Authority was in Tampa yesterday at the American Association of Port Authorities at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina. Nothing for Tampa since Governor Scott said he’d pull funding if the city worked with Cuba.
The very popular Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet that precedes this Sunday’s Super Bowl game will feature two commercials with guide dogs from Southeastern Guide Dogs which has a campus in Palmetto. The Subaru commercials feature a local family that are puppy raisers.
The Cross Bay Ferry has been named as the Project of the Year by the Tampa Bay Institute of Engineers. The ferry runs on a limited schedule between downtown St Pete and Tampa and ends this March. Past winners include the Courtney Campbell Trail.
An orphaned Manatee calf that was being cared for at Lowry Park Zoo has died. They named the calf “Emoji” and said it was thanks in part to man that the calf died with a stomach full of debris like plastic, along with the cold and stress. The Zoo has been petitioning for a manatee emoji with Unicode. You can see and sign that petition here.
Pasco County is thinking about imposing a countywide fee of $77 to help finance drainage construction costs. The total cost of that improvement project could run $300 million dollars. County Commissioners will meet on the 21st in New Port Richey to discuss those fees.
