A brush fire that began around Gunn Highway and State Road 54 this morning is spreading rapidly. Pasco County Fire Rescue, along with Florida Fire Services  have been fighting the growing flames and as a result has shut down and evacuate Starkey Wilderness Park in Pasco County. The Florida National Guard has also come in to help and are using Blackhawk helicopters to drop water on the fire which is spreading very quickly with winds gusting 10-15 mph.

Please avoid the area and watch for detours and check in with Pasco County Fire Rescue on Facebook and Twitter for the latest information.

It’s also a good time to remember the burn bans and to avoid tossing things like cigarette butts out the car window or into dry areas. This is is current map and updates are available online from Florida Forest Services.
