The Tampa Bay Rowdies are getting what they want. Voters in St Petersburg pass that special referendum by an overwhelming 87% in favor of a 25-year lease for the Rowdies which could lead to a Major League Soccer team calling Al Lang home. But that vote came from less than 20% of registered voters who actually did vote. The Bill Edwards group and an investors group say they have $80 million dollars set aside for renovations to the stadium.
Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputies believe they’ve busted a dog fighting ring in Brooksville. Deputies had originally gone to a home to investigate possible code violations and found dogs chained up on county property. They were taken to Hernando County Animal Services shelter. Sea turtle nesting season is underway, so watch for nests on the beach, and make sure to dim those lights at night if you live at the beach. Hatchlings could head the wrong way if you don’t. There’s also quite a few volunteers checking nests daily. The Sea Turtle Patrol from Mote Marine laboratory found their first nests just this week.
Burn bans remain in place for most Bay area counties. But despite that many fire departments are actually seeing an increase in open fires like bonfires. That carries a heavy fine, and if you’re not sure about the rules in your area, please check here.
