The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority has approved the next step in expansion plans for Tampa International Airport. That amendment to the 2017 fiscal budget is for $132.4 million dollars. The red parking garage would be demolished and construction would begin on the retail and office space.
Madeira Beach has fired City Manager Shane Crawford. Mayor Maggi Black took office less than one month ago and said that Crawford had “undermined” city commissioners from the start of her administration. Crawford can ask for another hearing.
Hillsborough County Commissioners unanimously a noise ordinance this week that would fine pet owners up to $500, but decided to wait on a proposal to ban the commercial sale of pets. They’ll talk about that more at their next meeting on the 17th. There’s more on this story in the Tampa Bay Times.
Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin was in a car crash Thursday afternoon that left him with minor injuries. Another motorist ran a stop sign, hitting Martin. Jake Balsay was cited in the wreck.
Duke Energy is asking for a rate increase to help pay for the $82 million in costs they incurred with the cancelation of the Levy County nuclear power plant. If it is approved look for $2.51 increase in bills starting in January of 2018.
Sea turtle nesting season is underway, so watch for nests on the beach, and make sure to dim those lights at night if you live at the beach. Hatchlings could head the wrong way if you don’t. The Sea Turtle Patrol from Mote Marine laboratory found their first nests just this week.
Burn bans remain in place for most Bay area counties. But despite that many fire departments are actually seeing an increase in open fires like bonfires. That carries a heavy fine, and if you’re not sure about the rules in your area, please check here.
