UPDATE – Christopher Michael Try turned himself in this morning, but the Florida Highway Patrol is looking for Kevin Wilson, 23, of New Port Richey. They are both considered “persons of interest” in a hit and run incident.There’s video of a stolen SUV going out of control and striking 14-year old Johnny Walsh Jr on Moog Rd in Pasco County. Walsh walked away from the accident with some injuries but will be okay.
A dog undergoing treatment for cancer managed to escape Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners yesterday and is missing. Shelby is a 4-year old boxer and ran from the office on Busch to the east of Dale Mabry. They’re worried about her becoming dehydrated in this heat and have offered a $1,000 reward. She’s been spotted in the area a couple of times since escaping Wednesday.
There’s a massive wildfire that’s grown to over 8,000 acres around the Highlands/Polk County line. But this one is especially dangerous since it’s around the Avon Park Bombing Range and there’s concern over unexploded bombs. Florida Forest Services says they’ll fight this fire with back burning techniques instead of bulldozers to fight the fire because of that.
AAA thinks we’re about to have a very busy Memorial Day weekend with over two million Floridians heading out on the highways. Nationwide take the number up to over 39 million. Most of us will keep that trip to within 50 miles of home.
