This is the tax free weekend for disaster preparedness supplies. It ends on Sunday, and we have the full list for you here. Forecasters expect this to be a more active year with up to 17 storms. Tampa City Hall was evacuated yesterday when someone found an unattended package. It turned out to be a cake in the box, and City Hall was reopened.
Parking in downtown St Pete is more expensive. Rates on meters went from $1 to $1.50 per hour along Beach Drive where it’s usually the most congested effective yesterday. Active meter hours also changed during the week on Beach Drive through 10 pm, and along Central Ave until 8 pm. The city is trying to help out with a free first hour at parking garages in the Municipal Services Center, Sundial and South Core parking garages.
There are now twelve confirmed cases of the “dog flu” in Florida. The outbreak was confirmed at two dog shows. The H3N2 canine influenza has not been blamed for any deaths and they do not believe it can be spread to humans. Symptoms for your pet can be similar to human with runny noses and coughs.
