Tropical Storm Bret is in the western Atlantic and is expected to head for the Caribbean. The second system would be named Cindy and is currently off the Yucatan Peninsula, and is headed into the Gulf of Mexico on the present track. The Bay area is expected to get a lot of rain out of these systems. We have the latest online right now.
If you drive Gandy Blvd. every day, good news this morning. The western lanes of the new overpass are open, and the eastbound lanes should be open next month. When it’s all done each direction will have three lanes open to traffic between 275 and MLK, then down to two lanes between MLK and 4th St N.
The Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization voted to go ahead with the planned addition of more than 90 miles of toll lanes to the interstate system among other improvements at yesterday’s meeting. Tampa Bay Next will remain a part of the plan despite some opposition. Look for the Howard Frankland Bridge to also be rebuilt as part of that plan.
The Clearwater Redevelopment Agency wants to bring new businesses to downtown Clearwater and they’re making it worthwhile. The Anchor Tenant Redevelopment Agency is offering anchor businesses up to $2500, 000 and that loan would not have to be repaid if they stay in business for at least five years.
The St Pete Pride Parade is this Saturday night and the St Pete Police Department has begun handing out rainbow decals to local business that will designate them as “safe place” for the LGBT community. If someone feels harassed or threatened that decal would show them a safe place to go. You can request those decals directly from the SPPD.
