TECO tragedy at Big Bend plant

Tampa Electric Company (TECO) continues to experience safety issues with a very serious accident at the Big bend power plant yesterday. At least 2 people were killed and 4 others were sent to the hospital.

The Florida Department of Health says seven people are now receiving treatment because of exposure to a rabid cat in Hillsborough County.Three suffered bites. Four others were unknowingly exposed when they performed surgery on the cat last week.

Researchers with the University of Florida have found a potentially lethal parasite in five Florida counties, including Hillsborough.  Signs of infection for adults include headaches, stiff neck, fever, vomiting, nausea and paralysis of the face and limbs. Nausea, vomiting and fever are the most common symptoms for children.

Carnival is optimistic about future trips to Cuba from Tampa and has scheduled 12 trips to the island nation so far .The cruise line maintains they are not concerned with recent travel restrictions to Cuba announced this week.

The Pirates beat the Tampa Bay Rays last 4-0 in Pittsburg.
