Funnel Cloud reported in Largo

A funnel cloud was spotted Monday afternoon over Largo. It was present from about 12:12 p.m. to 12:19 p.m. in the area of Brian Dairy Road and U.S. 19. Minor damage was seen on Ulmerton Road. No touchdown on the ground has been confirmed.

The company who put on Tampa’s fireworks show last night, ran into technical problems. The computer glitch left long periods of “dead air” in the skies of Channelside. 

Florida is planning to execute its next Death Row inmate in August — which will be the first execution after more than 18 months of legal limbo over the state’s death penalty law.

As men injured in the industrial accident at TECO’s Big Bend power station in Apollo Beach recover,  the Tampa area community is coming together to support the families of those affected by the tragedy. A GoFund me page has been set up for donations to help the families with medical bills, expenses, food and transportation.

Two familiar faces chow their way back to the top of this year’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island. On the men’s side, reigning champion Joey “Jaws” Chestnut downed 72 dogs in 10 minutes and it’s a new world record. Earlier in the women’s competition, Miki Sudo scarfed down 41 dogs in 10 minutes to defend her championship belt.

The Tampa Bay Rays beat Joe Madden’s Cubs at Wrigley yesterday, 6-5.
