Bad News For Brides

Alfred Angelo Bridal Salons will not fulfill any orders despite what they told customers after they abruptly closed their doors after filing for bankruptcy. There is a link to file a claim if you were left without a dress and your money here.

St Petersburg City Council voted to end an agreement between the city and the county that would reallocate $14 million for enhancements to the Pier district. If the county approves that request the Pier budget would then rise to $76 million. Pinellas County Commissioners will take a look at the issue at their Sept. 14th meeting.

The back-to-school sales tax holiday began at midnight and runs all weekend through midnight Sunday. You can see the full list of what’s tax-free here, and this year that does include computers.

The Florida Public Service Commission has approved higher rates for customers of Utilities, Inc. and that does include Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties. While some customers may see lower bills others could see that monthly bill double. We have more on that story here.

Cleanup on the Land O Lakes sinkhole will begin soon, but it’s going to cost quite a bit. Pasco County Commissioners awarded a contract to Ceres Environmental Services for the project. For now the county’s insurance fund will be picking up the $1.3 million dollar price tag for the initial phase of the cleanup that will take some 3-4 weeks.
