The executive director of the Pepin Academy charter schools died and his 4-year old daughter is in critical condition after the Jet Ski there were one collided with a boat in the Intercoastal Waterway near Clearwater Beach. Craig Butz died at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater and his daughter Teagan was flown to Bayfront Health St Pete where she is listed in critical condition. Personal injury attorney Tom Carey was at the wheel of the boat they collided with. The accident is under investigation, and there’s more on the story in the Tampa Bay Times.
The Bucs lost on Sunday to the Vikings 34-17. In addition to a number of injuries to the team, quarterback Jameis Winston was intercepted 3 times, and receiver Mike Evans took his frustration out on a bin of ice on the sidelines. The team’s next game is back at Ray Jay on Sunday at 4 against the New York Giants.
Flooding is still a problem for residents along the Withlacoochee River, with some calling it the worst they’ve seen in over 30 years. Voluntary evacuations were ordered for some 4,000 residents. This is “Burg Buys Local Week” in St Petersburg, The week was created to help small business recover from the losses incurred by Hurricane Irma. The event runs through October 1st. Over in Tampa, they’re also working to support local small business owners with Shop Gandy! that kicks off on Tuesday.
The South Florida Museum held their memorial for Snooty over the weekend. It was originally delayed by Hurricane Irma and rescheduled for Sunday. Snooty died in an accidental drowning just days after a celebration of his 69th birthday.
