Governor Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency for 29 counties in the state in advance of Tropical Storm Nate. Oil and gas companies evacuated their workers from rigs in the Gulf. On the present track the storm could make landfall anywhere from the coastline of Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle sometime Sunday at a Category One hurricane. Keep track of the storm in the Dove Hurricane Guide.

The Bucs lost to New England Thursday night 19-14. A big part of that loss came from Bucs kicker Nick Folk missing two field goals and an extra point. He Bucs will head to Arizona for their next game October 15th.

The Tampa Bay Lightning open their 25th anniversary NHL season tonight at Amalie Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 pm against the Florida Panthers.

Big changes are in store for the Howard Frankland Bridge. The Florida Department of Transportation announced plan to expand the southbound lanes from four to eight with two of those express lanes that will go in both direction along with a bike and pedestrian path. The northbound lanes will be torn down, and when the southbound lanes are finished traffic will be flipped over to that side. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2020 at a cost of $750 million with a completion date 2024.
