Cold Weather Temps Prompt Shelters To Open

Cold weather shelters opened last night and there’s a good chance they will be open most of the week. Near freezing overnight temperatures are predicted most of the week. We have a list of those shelters here along with phone numbers for more information and how to get a ride to the shelters. We’ll keep them updated throughout the week.


The frigid temps also have a lot of Manatees huddling together for warmth. The viewing station in Apollo Beach and in Crystal Springs have quite of few to see. Remember, it’s okay to look but against the law to touch them.


A family of four Bellair in Pinellas County died in a New Year’s Eve plane crash along with eight other people. The charted plane went down in Costa Rica shortly after takeoff. Drs. Mitchell and Leslie Levin Weiss and their children Hannah and Moses reportedly all died on impact.


Dirk Koetter will return as coach for the Buc’s in 2018. The team finished the year 4-11 with a win on Sunday against New Orleans. This will be his third year as coach.


While a lot of people were getting ready to ring in the New Year or to watch football bowl games Marcy McDonald went swimming in the 64-degree water of Tampa Bay. She started at 6:20 am New Year’s Eve and finished 19 hours later Ben T Davis Beach.
