Vigils Held For Parkland School Shooting Victims

Vigils were held across the state Monday night to honor the seventeen shooting victims in Parkland, Florida. One in Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park featured a choir singing “Hallejulah” and a readingof the victim’s names. On Monday DCF also released a 2016 report on the accused shooter Nicholas Cruz that called him “a vulnerable adult due to mental illness.


An undercover sting by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department over the weekend caught 26 unlicensed contractors. Sheriff Bob Gualteiri said “Operation Drop The Hammer” shows problems persist with Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board. He called the independent agency “ineffective”


An inspection report from the Coast Guard showed problem with the casino boat shuttle that caught fire last month. The “Island Lady” was inspected last March after the USCG said the boat owners were passed their annual review date. The report showed some issues that were corrected and the boat was deemed fit for service. One woman died in the aftermath of the fire that sent cruise passengers jumping off the boat and into the Gulf waters off  Port Richey.


Boaters are being warned to watch out for manatees after one was found dead in Halls River in Homosassa last month. The manatee was found in an area of the river that’s a no-wake zone but Florida Fish and Wildlife said they’re concerned that boaters are not slowing down.
