Commissioners Vote To Spend Another $61 Million For Amalie Improvements

Hillsborough County Commissioners wants to make sure the Lightning stay in Amalie Arena. They voted to spend another $61 million dollars on improvements to the venue. The total amount for improvements now rises to $108.5 million through 2030. This would keep the Lightning in place through 2037 or face financial penalties. Funding would come from the county’s bed tax collection.
The parents of accused Seminole Heights killer Howell Donaldson III are under house arrest and are being held in contempt of court. They continue to refuse to answer prosecutor’s questions and will stay under house arrest for the next six months.
It’s getting close to spring break at the beach and Clearwater Beach has already gotten a jump-start on traffic control with a ten week park and ride that’s free. It started this past Monday with shuttle rides to and from parking lots to the beach. Look for signs around town that will direct you to those lots. And if you’d rather take the ferry – which is not free – the city plans to double the amount of boats.
