Gov Scott Schedules Press Conference On Fl School Safety

Florida Governor Rick Scott has a press conference scheduled for 10:30 this morning. The Governor said he has a “major action plan”to help keep students in Florida safe. Yesterday, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said the School Resource Officer who was a deputy never went in to Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School where 17 students and teachers died. Deputy Scot Peterson has resigned. Two other officers are on administrative leave pending further investigation.



Hillsborough County Commissioners wants to make sure the Lightning stay in Amalie Arena. They voted to spend another $61 million dollars on improvements to the venue. The total amount for improvements now rises to $108.5 million through 2030. This would keep the Lightning in place through 2037 or face financial penalties. Funding would come from the county’s bed tax collection.



It’s getting close to spring break at the beach and Clearwater Beach has already gotten a jump-start on traffic control with a ten week park and ride that’s free. It started this past Monday with shuttle rides to and from parking lots to the beach. Look for signs around town that will direct you to those lots. And if you’d rather take the ferry – which is not free –  the city plans to double the amount of boats.



And speaking of Clearwater Beach, it now takes the top spot as best beach in the US from a new TripAdvisor poll. Florida actually had three in the top ten with Siesta Key in third and St Pete Beach in seventh. Clearwater Beach also landed on the Best Beaches in the World list at seventh.



Boaters are being warned to watch out for manatees after one was found dead in Halls River in Homosassa last month. The manatee was found in an area of the river that’s a no-wake zone but Florida Fish and Wildlife said they’re concerned that boaters are not slowing down.
