Winn-Dixie To Close Ten Bay Area Locations

Winn-Dixie announced the closure of 94 stores yesterday as part of their Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. That includes these ten stores here in the Bay area that the company classified as “underperforming.” This follows the news of closing 740 of their stores. putting 30,000 jobs are at risk. The online store will stay open for a few weeks as they look for a buyer. The liquidation includes the Babies R Us stores and holdings worldwide.

 

 

A pedestrian bridge that connected Florida International University with the city of Sweetwater collapsed yesterday, killing at least six people. First responders also evacuated parking garages in the area as a precaution. Nine others were taken to area hospitals. The 950-ton bridge was brand new. built under a process called Accelerated Bridge Construction and was not open to pedestrians yet.

 

 

A United flight out of Tampa International Airport had to burn off fuel for more than three hours after striking a flock of birds on takeoff. The flight circled in the Gulf of Mexico before returning to TIA. Passengers took another flight to San Francisco.

 

 

 

Taking the boat out on the Branden River this weekend? You’re being warned to watch out for otters. Two attacks in two days have been reported to the FWC, leaving one woman with stitches and facing rabies shots. There are warnings posted at Linger Lodge advising boater about the aggressive otters.
