First Hurricane Forecast Released

Colorado State University has released their preliminary hurricane forecast. It calls for a busy season with 14 named storms, seven reaching hurricane status and three of those becoming major hurricanes. It also raises the chance of one major hurricane making landfall to 63%, up from last year’s 52%. The list of names for the 2018 hurricane season are here.

 

 

With the start of start of hurricane season less than two months away Florida state officials are asking residents who do not live in evacuation zones to think twice about leaving when a storm is approaching.  They want to make sure resources are available for people who really need them. Their message is to “know your zone, know your home.”

 

 

Lightning fans can look forward to those single game tickets for the first round playoffs for the Stanley Cup will going on sale Friday morning at 10 am.  The Lightning say they expect team captain Steve Stamkos to be ready to play after he left a game over the weekend with an aggravated lower body injury.

 

 

If you love your blueberries, you may not love the prices this season. The one-two punch of Hurricane Irma and frost from the cold weather damaged some crops. The Florida Blueberry Growers Association has said just about every farm in the state had some damage but they are still hoping for a good year.

 

 

This weekend you can freshwater fish without a license in Florida. Florida Fish and Wildlife holds the annual event to encourage anglers to get out and enjoy a day fishing. But saltwater fishing for free isn’t until June. Here’s the days you can head out and enjoy a day fishing for free.
