Should USF get a new football stadium? A report from Convention, Sports, and Leisure International (CSL International) says to wait until they actually have the money to build it. That would keep the Bulls at Raymond James Stadium for now with no dates set for the proposed new Football Center.
Florida’s back to school sales tax holiday is set for this weekend, August 3rd – 5th. We have the complete list of what is and what not on the list this year. There are limits of $60 or less for items like clothing, shoes and other supplies. An adopt-a-teacher program a Tampa woman has created has gone viral. Ellie Baggett wants to help teachers who actually buy their own classroom supplies. The idea is to adopt a teacher and spend around $30 for supplies for them. The campaign in on Facebook if you’d like to help.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services have already found 575 skimmers on gas station pumps with most of them in the Bay area and Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. That’s way ahead of last year’s statistics. You can check the list of where those skimmers have been found and what to look out for when buying gas.
As we approach the heart of hurricane season, FEMA has issued new flood zone maps for Pinellas County. The new maps are much more accurate for flood hazards. That map has not been updated since 2009. Check to see if things have change for you.
It’s sea turtle nesting season but the news from the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation isn’t good. A new report from the group is blaming red tide for more dead and sick sea turtles being found on Florida beaches. If you do spot a turtle in distress you can report disoriented or stranded sea turtles to 978-728-3663(978-SAVE-ONE).
April the giraffe is pregnant again. The new calf is expected sometime this spring at Animal Adventure Park in New York. There will be a live stream of the expectant Mom. Last year’s birth by April of her fourth calf, Tajiri was watched live by millions.
