Amazon Adds Whole Foods To Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day kicks off at 3 pm today and it’s been extended by an additional six hours making the online shopping experience a full 36 hours. Amazon did raise prime membership rates this year, but they still expect record-setting sales. Whole Foods is part of Prime Day this year offering “select deals. Beach Access Law Under Review

Despite a Florida law that went into effect July 1st limiting public access to parts of the beach in front of private homes and resorts, Governor Scott signed an executive order asking them not to limit access. Operation Lower The Boom Underway

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s office wants loud car stereos turned down.  You can actually report them yourself at Operation Lower The Boom and a first notice of the noise ordinance get mailed out. The second notice will get the offender a visit from a deputy. But a ticket won’t be issued unless the deputy actually witnesses the offense. Then that first offense will carry a $218 fine.

Livesaving Attempt At Skyway

An off-duty Winter Have firefighter tried to save a man who jumped off the Skyway Bridge yesterday and managed to get him into his boat. He heard the man screaming for help who later died  TGH. There are phones on the bridge and the National Suicide Prevention Hotline is always available if you or someone who know needs help. Beryl is no longer a hurricane and is falling apart, but there’s Tropical Storm Chris off the east coast. Chris will probably reach hurricane status sometime today. The current track would take it up the coastline but doesn’t look like it will be a major threat. Follow action in the tropics with us here in the Dove Hurricane Guide.

Pinellas Park police are asking for help in finding a driver who struck a bicyclist Friday night around 8 pm on 19 and 70th Avenue North and left the scene.  Twenty year old Duncan Craver will be fine but if you can help call the Pinellas Park Police Department at 727-369-7864.

Fireworks Fizzle Out On The 4th

The 4th of July fizzled out in St Petersburg with the cancellation of the city’s fireworks display.  A post from the city’s Facebook page blamed technical issues with the company hired to do the fireworks. They have not rescheduled the display.

Tampa’s fireworks display was cut short due to lightning in the area. Residents saw about eight minutes before the show was shut down. Gulfport also canceled due to the weather but has been rescheduled for Thursday night at 9 am.

Donaldson Parents Released From House Arrest

The parents of accused Seminole Heights killer Howell Donaldson have been released from house arrest. Howell Donaldson Jr. and Rosita Donaldson had refused to answer questions about their son but submitted an afffadivit Monday to prosecutors.

AAA is predicting another record-breaking holiday weekend, with almost 47 million people will be on the roads for the 4th of July holiday weekend, officially running Tuesday through Sunday. That’s the most people traveling since AAA started keeping records on travel.

The Florida Fire Marshall says they best way to enjoy fireworks is to let the pros handle them, and be careful what you buy at those roadside stands. Not everything there is legal in Florida. If it leaves the ground or explodes, it’s not. Check the list from the Fire Marshal for what is legal.
