The Florida Department of Transportation says the backlog of unprocessed toll transactions is now up to date as they continue the transition to the new SunPass Combined Service System. But if you have incurred overdraft fees as the result of the problems with SunPass the state of Florida is going to reimburse you. Governor Scott declared a state of emergency in seven counties due to the red tide. Those counties are Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties. Only low levels have been detected in Pinellas and none in Hillsborough, but the funds will be there if necessary. The newly released fund will help Mote Marine Laboratory as well as the efforts of each county to combat the toxic algae. To track the tide click here.
Red tide is also affecting sea turtle nesting season. The news from the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation isn’t good. A new report from the group is blaming red tide for more dead and sick sea turtles being found on Florida beaches. If you do spot a turtle in distress you can report disoriented or stranded sea turtles to 978-728-3663(978-SAVE-ONE).
A shortage of school bus drivers in Polk county created delays Monday and school officials say it could stay that way for the next couple of weeks. There are over 60 job openings. If you’re interested and have a commercial drivers license they’d like to hear from you.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy will join the Buc’s Ring of Honor. His induction will take place Sept. 24th during the Bucs-Steelers game at Raymnd James Stadium.
