When it comes to having the worst drivers in the US, we’re no longer number one. The Sunshine State gives up the top spot in a survey spot our by SmartAsset that now has Mississippi as number one with Florida falling to eighth. Florida had been ranked the worst for two years in a row.
It was a school crossing guard now identified as the person who ran over a gopher tortoise in the bus circle at San Jose Elementary School in Dunedin. The Pinellas County Sheriff’s office said the man told them he never saw the tortoise because he was looking the other way, until it was too late. No charges will be filed.
Low concentrations of red tide are now showing up offshore from Hillsborough County. The latest map from the FWC shows red extending from south Florida all the way up to Hillsborough County. It’s on the low side in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Check that new map here along with the latest report. Red tide is also being blamed for more dead and sick sea turtles being found on Florida beaches. It’s the law to move over one lane when passing emergency vehicles off to the side of the road and more than 100 drivers were ticketed over the weekend who ignored the law on the Courtney Campbell Causeway. The Clearwater Police Department wanted to highlight the danger of ignoring the law when two of their own officers were hurt when a driver hit them in two wrecks a week ago.
